Following the successful installation and assessment of a trial area, Zenith Flooring was appointed to complete a wider resin flooring programme across the concourse at York Stadium.
The project required a durable, slip-resistant finish capable of supporting heavy pedestrian use while creating a clean and consistent appearance throughout the stadium environment.
The challenge
Stadium concourses experience concentrated foot traffic, regular cleaning and ongoing operational demands. The new flooring system therefore needed to combine long-term durability with enhanced slip resistance and a professional finish.
Before the main installation began, Zenith completed a trial area so that the proposed system, finish and application method could be assessed on site. Following its successful completion, the team was awarded the wider project.
Thorough surface preparation
The performance of any resin flooring system depends heavily on the quality of the substrate preparation beneath it.
Insufficient preparation can prevent the resin from bonding correctly and is one of the most common causes of premature coating failure. For this reason, Zenith allowed sufficient time to prepare the existing concourse surface thoroughly before applying the new system.
The substrate was mechanically prepared to remove contaminants, loose material and any elements that could affect adhesion. This created a clean, sound surface with the mechanical profile required for the subsequent resin coats.
Polyaspartic resin installation
Following preparation, Zenith installed a two-coat, UV-resistant polyaspartic resin system.
Polyaspartic resin was selected to provide a hard-wearing finish with good colour stability, making it suitable for a prominent stadium environment. Aluminium oxide was incorporated into the system to increase the surface texture and enhance slip resistance across the concourse.
Resin detailing was also applied to distinguish the individual bays, helping to organise the space while creating a clear and consistent visual finish.
The completed concourse
The completed installation transformed the concourse with a durable, uniform and slip-resistant resin surface designed for the demands of a busy public venue.
Careful preparation helped establish a strong bond with the existing substrate, while the UV-resistant polyaspartic system provided the performance and appearance required across the wider stadium environment.
The result is a clean, clearly defined concourse floor that combines practical performance with a high-quality finish.
