Zenith Flooring was appointed by Aston Villa Football Club to assess and refurbish the flooring within the broadcasters’ entrance area.
The challenge
During a detailed site survey, our team identified that the existing floor had become excessively slippery. The surface was also beginning to flake, creating an unsuitable finish for an entrance used by staff, visitors and broadcasting teams.
Zenith worked closely with Aston Villa to specify a durable resin flooring system that would address the slip risk, improve the condition of the area and remain within the available project budget.
Surface preparation
Effective preparation was essential to the performance and longevity of the new flooring system.
The existing surface was mechanically ground using vacuum extraction equipment. This removed loose and failing material while creating the mechanical key required for the specified resin coating to bond securely to the substrate.
All waste generated during the preparation works was removed from site and disposed of in accordance with the relevant site and local waste-management requirements.
Resin flooring installation
Following preparation, Zenith applied a base coat of high-build epoxy resin. A heavy aggregate scatter was broadcast across the wet resin to create the required textured finish.
The system was then left to cure overnight, allowing the aggregate to form a strong bond with the epoxy base coat.
Our installation team returned the following day to remove any loose or excess aggregate. A second coat of high-build epoxy resin was then applied, encapsulating the bonded aggregate and creating a robust, uniform and slip-resistant surface.
Testing and completed result
Once the installation was complete, the new resin floor was slip tested in both wet and dry conditions.
The results confirmed that the completed surface presented a low slip risk, providing Aston Villa Football Club with reassurance that the broadcasters’ entrance had received a safe, durable and professionally installed flooring system.
The completed floor delivers improved grip, easier maintenance and a hard-wearing finish suited to the demands of a busy commercial environment.
